Even More Extreme Ferrari Ideas
I tend to get talked into things. It's probably because I am so enthusiastic about design, performance, and trying to out-do
whatever I've just done. Anyway, I was talking with one of our audio distributors from Asia who was a huge fan of the Ferrari Art.
Engine. He was also a fan of all things DWV. Well...it didn't take long before he was suggesting I create an extreme audiophile
speaker product. He knew I couldn't resist the challenge to make something even bigger and badder than the Art.Engine, after
all, that was a finished product. We'd done it. But we hadn't gone totally over the top into the rarefied world of the audiophiles.
There's a reason. I wasn't an audiophile and I believed audiophiles mostly spent their listening time trying to dissect and critique,
rather than enjoy, music. My whole reason for working in audio was for the music. The enjoyment. Our distributor also used
promises of big sales to his dedicated and wealthy clientele to seduce me into taking on the challenge. Some months later, hook
firmly set, I was designing a monster speaker to compete with anything the audiophile crazies could put in our path. The Art.Opera
was born. Even more aluminum, huge sub-woofers, passive radiators, and back-breaking weight. Even the amplifiers used to power
these towers were massive. Time to start designing small things! - DW
