The LandSpeeder

My first real production product was a mistake. A mistake because it was such a huge undertaking. I was a novice and I was driven
by the comments, praise and requests that assorted people made when they saw my college thesis world speed record “bikes.”

I bit off more than I could chew and got down to designing and manufacturing a “consumer” version of my thesis. I learned about
sourcing, purchase orders, consulting engineers, contracts, trade shows, packaging, shipping, warranties, happy customers, mad
customers, up-selling, customization, hiring, firing, inventory, quality control, marketing, PR, sales and so much more. I should’ve
created an ashtray or a T-shirt. Anything would have been easier. But in the end, it was a great ride and introduced me to the
world of creating and exposing real products to a critical world. I loved it! – DW
