SoundTube and MTV

Dire Straits sang "I want my MTV" because MTV was really hot. Building on their visibility and popularity, they created the
summer "Beach House" show where they’d take a great waterfront home and turn it into a super-cool music and entertainment
setting for a few weeks. They’d broadcast their show from the Beach House during that time, while bringing in all kinds of stars
and fun-loving kids.

Manufacturers of products aimed at this target audience paid vast sums to place their products in and around the Beach House.
This included speaker manufacturers and the big brands battled to place their products. Lucky for us, the team at MTV decided
they’d rather have some truly unique audio speakers than go with the conventional offerings from JBL, Bose and others. They
wanted SoundTubes and they didn’t ask for any payment. We created some custom covered SoundTubes and flew to Malibu to set
speakers all over the Beach House compound – even at the top of the half-pipe they’d erected in the front yard. The whole time
we worked there, all I could think about was what would the property owners do when they returned to their home painted blue,
pink, orange and yellow?! – DW
