Ferrari F1 - Agip Power

Is there a more powerful logo from the early days of sponsorship in Formula One than Agip? I don’t know of
one. I was a kid, totally wrapped up in F1, and couldn’t get enough of it. As an example, when I was just eight,
I would wake up early on summer mornings and copy motorsport sponsor logos onto scraps of canvas with
pens and markers to make my own patches, in hopes of wearing the same look that the real racers had. Those
graphic logos had such an impact. It wasn’t just the American brands that were so familiar. It was the European
brands. Elf, John Player, Gitanes, Michelin, and of course, Agip. That logo. It was so completely different. And
bold. And it was on the Ferraris!

Here it is on the Ferrari Formula One car that was so important in the seventies. I photographed this car at Ferrari
for a series of art pieces celebrating Formula One. Of course, I wanted to make it graphic without screaming the
name Agip. But you know. Of course you know.
